Artifacts of love
I find my grounding in the legacy of love lived out around me. The unequivocal love that my parents have shown me. The loyalty of my siblings relentlessly showing up for each other. The affection between my grandparents. And even the grief experienced by their absence.
On Christmas we sit around and watch home videos. We laugh, cry, and retell stories of our lived experiences together.
Photos help me connect to that love. They bring to life the experiences, memories, laughter, tears, and even words exchanged.
Documentary-styled photography
driven by authentic experiences.
I believe that what already exists between people is the most beautiful thing to capture. However, "acting natural" when a camera is around can be intimidating and vulnerable. I have found that the most natural photos come from doing things that are natural. This is why I prioritize creating experiences, not just posing for photos. I want to capture what really exists, not how I tell you to exist.
Let's do what you already enjoy doing together. Do you enjoy hiking? Watching the sunrise? Dancing in the kitchen? Riding motorcycles? Maybe you like sitting quietly together while reading a book. Let's do that. No matter what, let's make sure there is space for the truest you to show up.
Just as you will make vows to each other, this is what I can vow to you behind the lens...
I vow to listen to you, your story, and your dream for your big day.
I vow to co-create an experience that will yield space for your love to show up freely.
I vow to guide you through planning and connecting you to the best vendors I know.
I vow to give you my best from the moment we meet until the moment you receive your gallery.
I vow to be there on your big day and ensure everything goes according to your heart's desire.
I vow to deliver a gallery that authentically reflects your experience and allows you to relive it again and again.
On any given day you can find me with a messy bun, drinking an iced americano, & putting too much hot sauce on my food.
But more interestingly, on any given day you will catch me swooning over my favorite guy. He makes me laugh harder than anyone and humbles me with his endless generosity.
Rev tags along for most of my shoots as second-shooter, wedding officiant, and/or prop assistant so I'm sure you'll see him around.
When we're not shooting you can find us traveling as much as possible, rollerblading around the neighborhood, hiking around the island, and dancing in the kitchen.
My photography journey began when Rev and I began. I did not know or really believe that such a love could exist between two people. It felt (and still feels) like a rare natural phenomena. I knew it was the forever kind of thing from the start and longed to document our own story.
"How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist" - Sleeping at Last
"Planning a wedding having never visited Hawaii before made me so nervous but Sylvia's put me at ease with how knowledgeable she was about locations and vendors. Oh yeah...and I will never stop gushing over our photos."
"I always feel so awkward in front of the camera but Sylvia made it so fun and comfortable. Even my family and bridal party said how fun it was to have her there and our photos reflect just how at ease we were."
"Sylvia's photos speak for themselves but beyond that her organization and communication throughout planning our elopement kept me confident that everything was going work out."
"Sylvia is the real deal. I love how much I can 'feel' the photos she delivered of our favorite day. I can't wait to go back to Hawaii so we can work with her again"
